YouTube’s Shorts policy applies to short-form videos and may detect music from the Epidemic Sound catalog in your content. This results in a Shorts claim, which is different from a monetization claim on long-form videos.
This claim links the song to your Short, helping improve discoverability for both your video and the artist, while ensuring fair credit and compensation for the music creators.
Monetization & Revenue Sharing
When you upload a Short with music (including Epidemic Sound), YouTube splits ad revenue between:
- The Creator Pool
- Music Partners (based on the number of tracks used)
From the Creator Pool, you receive a portion based on your share of total Shorts views. You keep 45% of that share—regardless of whether music is used.
If no music is used, all ad revenue from your Short goes to the Creator Pool, potentially increasing the total amount available to creators—but it doesn’t change your individual share.
