Exporting your soundtrack from our Studio gives you all your individual audio tracks (as MP3s or WAVs) and a timeline file (.xml or .fcpxml) that tells your video editor how to arrange them.
This guide explains how to import that timeline and "relink" the audio files in your Non-Linear Editor (NLE).
Before you do anything else, move all the audio files and the .xml / .fcpxml file to a permanent location on your hard drive, like inside your main video project folder. We do not recommend that you import directly from your "Downloads" folder.
Adobe Premiere Pro
File to use: FCP 7 XML V5 (.xml)
- Open your Premiere Pro project.
- Go to File > Import....
- Navigate to the .xml file. Click Import.
- A Link Media window will pop up. This is normal! It just means Premiere needs you to show it where the audio files are.
- Click the Locate button in the bottom-right corner.
- In the new window, navigate to and select the folder where you saved your unzipped audio files.
- Click OK. Premiere Pro will automatically find all the matching files in that folder and link them.
- Your audio timeline will now appear as a new Sequence in your Project panel.
## DaVinci Resolve
File to use: FCP 7 XML (.xml) or FCPXML (.fcpxml) (both work)
- Open your Resolve project and go to the Edit page.
- Go to File > Import > Timeline
- Navigate to the .xml or .fcpxml file. Click Open.
- An options box may appear. You can typically leave the settings as default and click OK.
- The timeline will appear, but the audio clips will likely be red and "Offline."
- In the Media Pool (top-left), right-click on the new timeline you just imported and select Relink Clips for Selected Timeline.
- A new window will appear. Click the Source Folder button.
- Navigate to and select the folder containing your audio files. Click Open.
- Resolve will scan the folder and relink all the clips. Your timeline is now ready.
## Final Cut Pro
File to use: FCPXML (.fcpxml)
- Open your Final Cut Pro Library.
- Go to File > Import > XML
- Navigate to the .fcpxml file. Click Import.
- Final Cut Pro will import the file and create a new Project (which is your timeline) inside your chosen Event.
- If the clips are red and show "Offline," you need to relink them.
- Select the new Project (timeline) you just imported in the browser.
- Go to File > Relink Files > Original Media.
- A window will appear showing the missing files. Click Locate All in the bottom-right.
- Navigate to the folder containing your audio files. Select the folder (not the individual files) and click Choose.
- Final Cut Pro will match the files. Click Relink Files to confirm. Your audio timeline is now linked and ready to use.
## 💡 Troubleshooting & Tips
- "It didn't find all the files!"
- This usually happens if the .xml file and the audio files are not in the same folder. Make sure the entire unzipped folder is kept together.
- "Media Offline" errors later?
- This means you moved the folder after you relinked the media. Your NLE needs the files to stay in the same location. Try relinking again using the steps above.
- Wrong File?
- Double-check that you are using the correct file for your editor (e.g., .fcpxml for Final Cut Pro, .xml for Premiere).
